Nebraska has become the latest state to take bold action to defund Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers, following the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s recent decision upholding South Carolina\u2019s similar policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen signed an executive order prohibiting\u00a0<\/a>abortion providers from receiving state tax dollars. According to data from the governor\u2019s office, Nebraska\u2019s Medicaid program paid $172,164 in fiscal year 2024 and $341,972 in fiscal year 2025 to abortion providers for so-called \u201cnon-abortion services.\u201d While these payments were not for abortion procedures, they effectively subsidized facilities that profit from ending innocent preborn lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Pillen reaffirmed his commitment to life, saying his administration \u201cwill always stand for the dignity of life and the protection of the unborn.\u201d His leadership follows South Carolina\u2019s successful defense of its right to cut off state funds to abortion providers \u2014 a major victory for the pro-life movement nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ohio Must Act Next<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Here in Ohio, pro-life leaders are calling on Governor Mike DeWine<\/a> to take similar action. Reports indicate that over $15 million in state Medicaid reimbursements have gone to abortion providers in recent years \u2014 funds that could be redirected to life-affirming healthcare providers who truly serve mothers and babies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cincinnati Right to Life (CRTL), along with other leading pro-life organizations across the state, has been at the forefront of this effort. CRTL recently sent a formal letter to Governor DeWine <\/a>urging him to end taxpayer funding of abortion businesses. In addition, CRTL and partner organizations have launched a statewide petition campaign calling for Ohio to defund Planned Parenthood and all abortion providers once and for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOhio families should not be forced to bankroll the abortion industry,\u201d said Laura Strietmann, Executive Director of Cincinnati RTL. \u201cOur tax dollars must reflect our values \u2014 and that means funding providers that protect life, not end it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Turning Tide for Life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As Nebraska, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and other pro-life states take courageous steps to separate taxpayer funding from abortion providers, Ohio has a vital opportunity to join this growing movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cincinnati Right to Life urges all Ohioans who value life to contact Governor DeWine and add their names to the petition demanding that Ohio follow Nebraska\u2019s example.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
