While her husband was \u201cdesperate for more children,\u201d and she thought her son might like a sibling, she didn\u2019t want to put in the effort to raise another child. But she wouldn\u2019t be \u201crushed into that decision,\u201d wrote Cecilia Nowel \u2014&nbsp;because in Sweden, she could take the abortion pill well into the second trimester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In Sweden, chemical abortions are approved through 22 weeks, unlike in the U.S., where they are only FDA-approved through 10 weeks (70 days), lamented Nowel. As a result, in Sweden,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/society\/medication-abortion-sweden\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>97%<\/strong>&nbsp;of abortions<\/a>&nbsp;are committed by the abortion pill regimen, compared to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/2024\/03\/medication-abortion-accounted-63-all-us-abortions-2023-increase-53-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">63%<\/a>&nbsp;in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cSweden\u2019s use of abortion pills has important lessons for the United States,\u201d claimed Nowel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Nowel thinks American abortionists should take a hint from Swedish abortionists, expanding the abortion pill regimen later into pregnancy \u2014 even \u201cunder an administration hostile\u201d to killing preborn children, and even when the FDA has only approved it through 10 weeks. The later the gestational age, the riskier the abortion becomes for the woman. Risks include incomplete abortion (with follow-up surgical abortion), retained fetal tissue, infection, and death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">There&nbsp;<em>are<\/em>&nbsp;abortionists willing to turn a blind eye to the risks and the law in the U.S., including Dr. Gabrielle Goodrick, an Arizona abortionist who gives women the abortion pill beyond 10 weeks. The no-test abortion pill protocol allows abortionists to mail the drugs to women across the country without a medical exam, any knowledge of the woman\u2019s health status, or the baby\u2019s gestational age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Those women are then left on their own to deal with complications that may send them to the emergency room, or even to deal with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/mail-order-abortion-pill-dead-babies-dumpsters\/&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=housefile&amp;utm_campaign=lan&amp;utm_content=daily_digest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">how to dispose of the body of an aborted child who is too large to flush<\/a>&nbsp;down the toilet. The abortion industry, via the abortion pill, didn\u2019t just offload the abortions themselves to women; they also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/65-million-bodies-industry-disposes-aborted-children\/&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=housefile&amp;utm_campaign=lan&amp;utm_content=daily_digest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">offloaded the problem<\/a>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-breaks-heart-bodies\/&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=housefile&amp;utm_campaign=lan&amp;utm_content=daily_digest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">disposing of the remains<\/a>&nbsp;of those aborted children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The true depth of the dangers of chemical abortions are unknown, because when women&nbsp;<em>do<\/em>&nbsp;present to hospitals with adverse effects of the drugs, they have been urged by abortionists to lie and claim they are miscarrying (despite no risk of the woman\u2019s arrest or prosecution), heavily skewing the adverse events data, which never makes its way to the drug\u2019s manufacturer or to the FDA, which sets the safety rules surrounding the drug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Some women are even led to believe that they\u2019re truly having a miscarriage \u2014 with some abortion businesses even&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/ny-abortion-center-missed-period\/&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=housefile&amp;utm_campaign=lan&amp;utm_content=daily_digest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">describing<\/a>&nbsp;an abortion as \u201cbringing down your missed period.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Sandra Walis, a midwife who commits abortions via pill at \u00d6stra hospital, even claims, \u201cWe\u2019re creating miscarriages with medicine.\u201d It\u2019s jarring to see intentional killing redefined as \u201cmedicine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"1st Trimester Abortion | The Abortion Pill | What Is Abortion?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gnEHZiud8dg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Go Deeper:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">So what do second trimester chemical abortions look like in Sweden? At \u00d6stra, women are given mifepristone (to deprive the baby of oxygen and nutrients) followed by misoprostol (to cause contractions) one or two days later. They return to the hospital that day to give birth to an expected stillborn (yet&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0015028208008960\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">potentially alive<\/a>) baby, and a pan is placed in the hospital room toilet to catch the baby\u2019s body and placenta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It\u2019s disturbing \u2014 and apparently, widely accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Nathalie Kapp, chief medical adviser for the International Planned Parenthood Foundation, agrees that chemical abortions should be expanded, but also thinks that surgical abortion should never be denied to a woman who wants one \u2014 even if it means women have zero medical care attached. But her reasoning is an example of the problems with chemical abortions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cI feel it\u2019s really important that we have both options,\u201d she said. \u201cMedication abortion is incredibly important. It\u2019s really allowing a lot of things to happen as far as women being able to have abortions without doctors and without midwives and without providers in all kinds of settings. I think it\u2019s been transformative.&nbsp;<strong>But I do think it\u2019s not an experience that everybody wants to have<\/strong>\u201d (emphasis added).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">No kidding. Just ask one of the countless women who have shared their trauma stories with Live Action\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLRCroccSjXWSNTJjIZFUTkMFeOh_10m76\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I Saw My Baby<\/a>\u201d campaign. These women didn\u2019t see a \u201cclump of cells\u201d when they took the abortion pill; they saw and held their dead babies of varying ages and sizes \u2014 some still with beating hearts. They didn\u2019t just pass a bunch of tissue and go on with their days; they experienced severe cramping, hemorrhaging, even weeks worth of bleeding. Their babies are flushed away down toilets as they try to come to grips with what they\u2019ve done.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"573\" height=\"451\" src=\"https:\/\/cincinnatirighttolife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Baby-photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34649\" style=\"width:825px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cincinnatirighttolife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Baby-photo.jpg 573w, https:\/\/cincinnatirighttolife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Baby-photo-300x236.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 573px) 100vw, 573px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">But some women birth deceased babies too large to flush down toilets.
