The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a report<\/a> estimating that the number of women using mifepristone (the abortion pill) to abort their children through December 2024 \u201cis approximately 7.5 million women\u201d <\/strong>since the drug\u2019s approval in 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report reveals that\u00a0mifepristone (200mg)<\/a>\u00a0killed an additional 1.6 million preborn babies from 2022-2024 \u2014 an increase of nearly 103% since 2018.\u00a0In addition, the FDA reported an additional four women\u2019s deaths associated with the drug since its approval (now a total of\u00a036<\/strong>, up from 32\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0in 2023). This is an increase of over 27% from\u00a0two years ago and a 50% increase since\u00a02018<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drug\u2019s U.S. manufacturers, Danco Laboratories and GenBioPro, are required to report abortion pill numbers to the FDA. While these numbers allegedly represent women who have purchased the drug, there is speculation that they are not representative of the total number of actual abortions, due to alleged\u00a0stockpiling<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0women<\/a>\u00a0and some\u00a0states<\/a>\u00a0since the\u00a0Dobbs<\/em>\u00a0decision overturned\u00a0Roe v. Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More women added to death toll<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Biden administration approved the abortion pill\u2019s\u00a0expansion<\/a>\u00a0to mail-order and brick-and-mortar\u00a0pharmacies<\/a>, where it is unlikely that a medical professional will see a woman in person before she takes the drugs. This \u201cno-test\u201d protocol \u2014 which requires no ultrasound to determine gestational age or to rule out ectopic pregnancy, along with no blood tests to evaluate any other contraindications \u2014 is\u00a0riskier<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0women<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe FDA has received reports of serious adverse events in patients who took mifepristone,\u201d the FDA wrote<\/a> on its website updated in February 2025. \u201cAs of December 31, 2024<\/a>, there were 36 reports of deaths in patients associated with mifepristone since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy located outside the womb, such as in the fallopian tubes) resulting in death, and several fatal cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis),\u201d the FDA\u2019s website<\/a> (updated February of 2025) states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the FDA adds this caveat:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The adverse events cannot with certainty be causally attributed to mifepristone because of concurrent use of other drugs, other medical or surgical treatments, co-existing medical conditions, and information gaps about patient health status and clinical management of the patient.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A summary report of adverse events that reflects data through December 31, 2024, is\u202fhere<\/a>. The FDA has reviewed this information and did not identify any new safety signals. The FDA intends to update this summary report as appropriate.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

According to the FDA, \u201cDeaths were associated with sepsis in 13 of the 36 reported fatalities (9 cases tested positive for Clostridium sordellii, 1 case tested positive for Clostridium perfringens, 2 cases had negative blood cultures, and 1 case did not have blood culture data).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTen of the 13 fatal sepsis cases reported vaginal misoprostol use; 2 cases reported buccal misoprostol use; 1 case did not report the route of misoprostol use,\u201d FDA wrote. Misoprostol was approved to be used in a protocol with mifepristone. Due to safety regulations imposed on mifepristone by the FDA, the abortion industry is prescribing misoprostol alone<\/a> in some instances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTwenty-two of the 23 remaining U.S. deaths involved 2 cases of homicide, 2 cases of combined drug intoxication\/overdose, 2 cases of ruptured ectopic pregnancy, 2 cases of drug intoxication, 2 cases of suicide,\u201d among other potential associations (seen in the image under adverse events).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere were 13 additional reported deaths in women in foreign countries who used mifepristone for medical termination of pregnancy,\u201d FDA added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the FDA does not specifically state how many mifepristone-related deaths can be attributed solely to abortion, research published in 2022 by the pro-abortion group Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) estimated<\/a> that 18 of the 32 reported abortion pill deaths \u2014 more<\/em> than half \u2014 were \u201cprobably or possibly related to the abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021<\/a>, ANSIRH claimed that of the 26 reported deaths at that time, 13 (half of deaths) were probably or possibly related to the abortion. In their April 2019 analysis<\/a> of the FDA\u2019s 2018 adverse events report, ANSIRH claimed 11 of the 24 reported deaths were tied to abortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ANSIRH was founded<\/a> by abortionist Felicia H. Stewart and is funded<\/a> by the Packard Foundation, which provided early financial assistance to the abortion pill\u2019s U.S. manufacturer, Danco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lack of reporting and blatant deception<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Though the abortion pill is under a safety system called REMS,\u00a02016 changes<\/a>\u00a0put in place by the Obama administration\u2019s FDA\u00a0no longer\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/em>mandated<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0abortion pill manufacturers Danco Laboratories or GenBioPro (the generic manufacturer) to notify the FDA of\u00a0adverse events<\/a>\u00a0(complications)\u00a0other than death<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, there is no way to truly know the number or nature of adverse events resulting from the abortion pill after 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Live Action News has documented how bad actors inside the industry have instructed abortion clients present to emergency rooms if experiencing abortion pill complications instead of reporting to the prescriber of the drug. Some have\u00a0suggested that clients should lie<\/a>\u00a0to medical staff and claim they are experiencing\u00a0natural miscarriages<\/em>. Abortionist Daniel Grossman took it a step further, unethically\u00a0suggesting<\/a>\u00a0that ER staff should\u00a0falsify medical documents<\/em>\u00a0to cover up abortion pill complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This blatant deception not only potentially muddies non-fatal abortion pill complications (which are no longer mandated by the FDA to be reported) but potentially skews the accuracy of any recorded deaths, which could be misattributed to pregnancy or natural miscarriage rather than induced abortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, despite the fact that adverse events are no longer required to be reported, the FDA still noted<\/a> 4,252 \u201c[c]ases with any adverse event\u201d were reported. They also noted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
