CINCINNATI (WKRC) \u2014 Anti-abortion groups and protesters gathered outside Planned Parenthood’s Cincinnati Surgical Center, calling for an end to the organization’s funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This demonstration coincided with the United States Supreme Court hearing arguments on whether patients can sue states that cut Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n\n\n

“We’re one of at least 80 cities across the U.S. that is holding a rally today. You’re helping to draw attention to the fact that Planned Parenthood, an organization that kills innocent children, does not deserve your tax dollars, not one cent,” said Mary Clark from 40 Days for Life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rallies aim to support defunding Planned Parenthood, but Nan Whaley, President of Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio, gave insight as to why these services are important.<\/p>\n\n\n

“It’s just a straight intimidation of people that need care and service, and it’s sad, but, you know, it doesn’t really inhibit our ability every day to provide the care that folks need.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Supreme Court case stems from South Carolina’s decision to exclude Planned Parenthood from its Medicaid program due to its provision of abortions. The court’s decision will determine if Medicaid recipients can choose healthcare providers, including Planned Parenthood physicians.<\/p>\n\n\n

“If the justices rule with the anti-choice movement, it just really actually means that we’ll see more abortions across the country, right? Because people won’t have access to birth control IUDs and the services they need,” Whaley said.<\/p>\n\n\n

She noted that a 2023 constitutional amendment, supported by 57% of Ohio voters, protects Planned Parenthood’s services, with even higher support in Cincinnati and Hamilton County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A decision from the U.S. Supreme Court is expected in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
