Anthony Pro-Life America<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The 119<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;Congress kicked off on Friday, and even a blizzard isn\u2019t stopping the new Republican majority from conducting the people\u2019s business \u2013 including the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sbaprolife\/status\/1876267295607255347\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first major pro-life bill<\/a>&nbsp;of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">As the GOP retakes the reins, here are some of the key allies in leadership to watch:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">House leadership<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Speaker of the House: Mike Johnson (Louisiana):&nbsp;<\/strong>Johnson was a staunch pro-life advocate long before entering politics, practicing constitutional law as senior counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom (formerly Alliance Defense Fund). In the 118<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;Congress, he was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SpeakerJohnson\/status\/1612840402574245890\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a leading voice<\/a>&nbsp;against the wave of pro-abortion violence that followed the leak of the&nbsp;<em>Dobbs&nbsp;<\/em>decision and worked hard to stop the Biden administration\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/victory-house-republicans-vote-to-protect-pregnancy-centers-connect-pregnant-college-students-with-life-affirming-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discrimination against pregnancy centers<\/a>. In 2024, he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.speaker.gov\/2024\/03\/07\/speaker-johnson-announces-state-of-the-union-guests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">brought<\/a>&nbsp;as his guest to Biden\u2019s State of the Union address the director of a local pregnancy center that was targeted by vandals.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/marjoriesba\/status\/1849924309294383137\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"477\" height=\"696\" src=\"https:\/\/cincinnatirighttolife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Marjorie-Dannenfelser.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cincinnatirighttolife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Marjorie-Dannenfelser.jpg 477w, https:\/\/cincinnatirighttolife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Marjorie-Dannenfelser-206x300.jpg 206w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 477px) 100vw, 477px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Majority leader: Steve Scalise (Louisiana):&nbsp;<\/strong>Hailed by President Trump as \u201cthe legend from Louisiana,\u201d Scalise is widely known as a determined survivor of cancer and an attempted assassin\u2019s bullet. It\u2019s no surprise&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/representative\/steve-scalise\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he\u2019s also a leader<\/a>&nbsp;in fighting for the lives of vulnerable children born and unborn. Previously as Republican Whip, in the wake of the Ralph Northam infanticide scandal, he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/whip-scalise-pro-life-house-leaders-launch-petition-hold-vote-born-alive-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spearheaded a petition<\/a>&nbsp;to bring the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act to the floor over the opposition of Nancy Pelosi and House Democrat leaders who repeatedly refused requests to hold a vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Whip: Tom Emmer (Minnesota):&nbsp;<\/strong>As part of the Republican leadership team, Emmer set a strong agenda for the new House majority in the 118<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;Congress with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/house-gop-takes-swift-action-on-life-in-new-congress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pro-life legislation<\/a>&nbsp;to protect babies born alive, stop taxpayer-funded abortion and more. He signed the&nbsp;<em>Dobbs&nbsp;<\/em>congressional amicus brief and is a perennial supporter of the March for Life. As a freshman, she introduced legislation to stop government-supported experiments using the bodies of aborted babies, as well as co-sponsoring bills to end taxpayer-funded abortion, protect babies from painful late-term abortions and more. She also signed the pro-life congressional amicus brief in the&nbsp;<em>Dobbs&nbsp;<\/em>case. Recently, Hudson&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/12\/exclusive-88-republicans-probe-army-for-labeling-pro-life-organizations-as-terrorist-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">led a Republican response<\/a>&nbsp;(along with Senate colleague Ted Budd) to the shocking military briefing that portrayed mainstream pro-life organizations as terrorist groups, resulting in Fort Liberty furiously disavowing the slides and promising to drop them from future presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senate leadership<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Majority leader: John Thune (South Dakota):&nbsp;<\/strong>Pro-life advocates can be very pleased by Thune\u2019s election as the top Senate Republican, succeeding Mitch McConnell.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sba-congratulates-new-senate-majority-leader-john-thune\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dannenfelser notes<\/a>, \u201cSen. Thune is an unwavering defender of life, voting consistently and courageously to protect the lives of unborn children and newborns\u201d including by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/columnists\/marjoriedannenfelser\/2023\/03\/06\/in-the-dobbs-era-pro-life-leaders-like-sen-thune-are-vital-n2620249\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">introducing<\/a>&nbsp;the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Since then he\u2019s maintained an outstanding&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/senator\/john-barrasso\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">record<\/a>, signing the congressional amicus brief in&nbsp;<em>Dobbs&nbsp;<\/em>and co-sponsoring several important pro-life bills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Conference chair: Tom Cotton (Arkansas):&nbsp;<\/strong>Cotton has been a strong critic of the Biden-Harris administration\u2019s radical Cabinet appointees, its anti-life weaponization of the DOJ, and its policy of paying for abortion travel in the Veterans Administration,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2023\/07\/since-when-did-the-pentagon-become-a-chapter-of-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noting<\/a>&nbsp;that three weeks of paid leave is \u201csomething that we don\u2019t even give our troops when they have a parent die.\u201d He\u2019s also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/senator\/tom-cotton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shown<\/a>&nbsp;the pro-life movement\u2019s compassion in introducing a bill to provide family and medical leave after miscarriage and stillbirth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Republican Policy Committee chair: Shelley Moore Capito (West Virginia):&nbsp;<\/strong>Capito has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/senator\/shelley-moore-capito\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">consistently voted pro-life<\/a>&nbsp;on the key votes we\u2019ve scored, including protecting babies born alive and stopping taxpayer-funded abortion. She has firmly opposed radical Biden nominees and the Democrats\u2019 attempts to impose a nationwide all-trimester abortion mandate. Capito serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee, an important role in ensuring spending bills have pro-life protections in a time when Democrats have sought to eliminate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Republican Conference vice-chair: James Lankford (Oklahoma):&nbsp;<\/strong>We\u2019re big fans of Sen. Lankford, who is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/lankford-two-years-after-dobbs-one-question-matterswhen-does-life-begin-opinion-1915996\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vocal about the human right to life<\/a>. He has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/senator\/james-lankford\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">introduced several bills<\/a>&nbsp;to stop discrimination against pro-life Americans, including in health care. On the first anniversary of&nbsp;<em>Dobbs&nbsp;<\/em>he led colleagues in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lankford.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/02.09.24-Lankford-letter-to-CME-re-DC-5.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">celebratory rally<\/a>. Senator-elect Jim Justice (WV) will be sworn in next week due to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/rollcall.com\/2024\/12\/27\/jim-justice-senate-west-virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unique circumstances<\/a>. Senator John Curtis (UT), who had an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/representative\/john-curtis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A+ record<\/a>&nbsp;as a member of the House, has replaced retiring Sen. Mitt Romney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">From top to bottom, the contrast between the new Republican majority and the defeated Democrats led by Kamala Harris couldn\u2019t be clearer. Babies in the womb and their mothers are far safer than they ever would have been under a Harris-Walz administration.
