Planned Parenthood pharmacy PPRx, on the campus of the Planned Parenthood Akron Health Center and operated by Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio (PPGO), is being tested as a \u201cblueprint for Planned Parenthood sites across the country,\u201d PPGO pharmacy director<\/a> Christopher Smurthwaite, told IdeaStream.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If successful, PPRx could \u201cexpand beyond Akron in the next year or two,\u201d Smurthwaite claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Planned Parenthood pharmacy, which will \u201coffer a wide range of prescription medications,\u201d is open to the public and shows a registration issue date 1\/10\/2024 from the Ohio Board of Pharmacy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But this pharmacy wasn\u2019t truly founded with a \u201cwide range\u201d of prescription medications in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s PPRx\u2019s true \u201cmission\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to PPGO\u2019s website,<\/a> the Planned Parenthood pharmacy PPRx, which officially opened for business in October of 2024, has one main \u201cmission\u201d (emphasis added):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our mission is to empower and support individuals on their gender-affirming journey<\/strong> by providing compassionate, personalized, and inclusive pharmaceutical care. We are dedicated to offering comprehensive and accessible healthcare solutions, fostering a safe and welcoming environment, and advocating for the unique needs of our transgender and non-binary community. Through education and empathy, PPrx Pharmacy will strive to enhance the well-being and health outcomes of all our patients.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We welcome and honor your authentic self.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

The site also notes that it will offer a \u201ca wide range of prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, health and wellness products, and personalized healthcare services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Planned Parenthood pharmacy claims it will offer \u201cvaccinations, including COVID-19 vaccines and flu shots, overdose prevention medications, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, HIV prevention medications, like PrEP and PEP, Gender-affirming hormone therapy medications,\u201d according to the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smurthwaite told IdeaStream.org<\/a> that the Planned Parenthood pharmacy was inspired to \u201creduc[e] the barriers for patients that are having issues with their pharmacies and filling medications, especially as we started to emerge as a go-to organization for gender-affirming care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were identifying that patients were having issues, not only filling their medications, but getting the correct supplies and unfortunately, also having to deal with the social stigma of filling gender-affirming care products,\u201d Smurthwaite told IdeaStream.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, at the same time, the\u00a0PPRx website<\/a>\u00a0claims it is a \u201ccommunity-focused pharmacy\u201d offering a \u201cwide range of prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, health and wellness products, and personalized healthcare services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

According to IdeaStream.org<\/a>, \u201cAkron was chosen as the test site because it has the capacity to serve as a central hub, holding medications for other Planned Parenthood locations throughout the state, Smurthwaite said. The plan is to expand beyond Akron in the next year or two while using this effort as a blueprint for Planned Parenthood sites across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Planned Parenthood pharmacy is currently using Microsoft forms to collect personal information such as name or \u201cpreferred name\u201d or \u201cpronouns,\u201d date of birth, address, phone number and prescription information for those seeking to fulfill<\/a> or transfer<\/a> a prescription. The form is clear that \u201cMicrosoft is not responsible for the privacy or security practices of its customers, including those of this form owner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PPRx utilizes\u00a0TrueScripts<\/a>, a pharmacist-founded\u00a0Prescription Benefit Management (PBM)<\/a>\u00a0company\u00a0founded<\/a>\u00a0in 2013 by Nathan Gabhart, and\u00a0co-founded<\/a>\u00a0by John Bell and Kevin Messmer, for prescription transfers.<\/p>\n\n\n

A video published<\/a> about TrueScripts\u2019 founding claims the company is based on \u201ctruth\u201d and \u201ctransparency\u201d and it shows the staff holding hands in prayer with Gabhart, stating that the company had agreed to \u201ctithe ten percent of our profits.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have been so blessed so that we can be a blessing to others,\u201d co-founder Messmer stated. \u201cIt\u2019s so much fun to be a vessel of God\u2019s blessing and share these blessings with others,\u201d Gabhart stated in the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While TrueScripts\u00a0openly refers<\/a>\u00a0to PPRx in its pharmacy locator, it is unclear whether TrueScripts\u2019 founders are aware that PPRx is a Planned Parenthood pharmacy, operated by the nation\u2019s number one abortion provider (which\u00a0commits<\/a>\u00a040% of the country\u2019s abortions). Live Action News has reached out to the company and is awaiting a response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
