The Mother of “Baby Poe” Chose to End Her Baby’s Life<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

BREAKING: On Monday\u00a0Cincinnati Right to Life reported<\/a>\u00a0the Kentucky court case of a mother, “Mary Poe.” She was 8 weeks pregnant with her third child but was seeking an abortion in Kentucky. Supported by the attorneys of the ACLU, “Mary Poe” is suing the state of Kentucky,\u00a0seeking to restore her right to an abortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Filed in state court in Louisville, the suit claims that Kentucky laws blocking abortions violate the plaintiff\u2019s constitutional rights to privacy and self-determination. It asks that Kentucky’s life-saving laws be struck down by a judge in Jefferson County Circuit Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was shared by\u00a0several news sources<\/a>\u00a0that on Wednesday of this week, two days after the hearing in Jefferson County Court, “Mary Poe”\u00a0aborted “Baby Poe” in a different state.<\/strong>\u00a0In the original filings, “Mary Poe” shared,\u00a0\u201cI feel overwhelmed and frustrated…” as well as explaining that Kentucky’s life-saving laws, “place an enormous burden on me.” Planned Parenthood’s research arm, Guttmacher,\u00a0reported in a peer-reviewed study<\/a>, that the two most common reasons women state they abort are, “a baby would change my life” and “financial.” “Mary Poe” tragically fell into these categories for reasons to deny life for her unborn child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cincinnati Right to Life is extremely saddened by this news.<\/strong>\u00a0We pray for “Mary Poe” and her family. Cincinnati Right to Life also shares the same sentiment as Kentucky Right to Life:\u00a0Baby Poe\u2019s life, though brief, represents the countless unborn children in Kentucky whose lives hang in the balance with the Mary Poe class action case filed by the ACLU.<\/p>\n\n\n

As reported in the Kentucky Lantern: “Poe will remain a plaintiff in this case, court documents say, because she \u201csatisfied Kentucky\u2019s constitutional standing requirements at the time of filing, when she was pregnant and seeking abortion care.\u201d Because of that, \u201cthis action continues to present a justiciable cause and should proceed,\u201d the filing states. Poe is represented by the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
