The Biden administration announced a new rule Monday which aims to force employers to cover abortion under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA). The administration\u2019s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed the over 400-page\u00a0rule<\/a>\u00a0titled \u201cImplementation of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act\u201d on Monday morning. The rule\u2019s publication is scheduled for April 19. According to the rule\u2019s\u00a0summary<\/a>, it will require \u201ca covered entity to provide reasonable accommodations to a qualified employee\u2019s or applicant\u2019s known limitations related to, affected by, or arising out of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions, unless the accommodation will cause an undue hardship on the operation of the business of the covered entity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lengthy rule mentions the word \u201cabortion\u201d a total of 348 times. House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairwoman Virginia Foxx, R-NC, slammed the new rule\u00a0stating<\/a>, \u201cAdding this controversial provision into the PWFA is wrong. Period.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAbortion is not a medical condition related to pregnancy; it is the opposite,\u201d continued Foxx. \u201cLeave it to the Biden administration to think terminating a pregnancy and ending the life of an unborn child addresses the needs of pregnant workers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis rule also goes well beyond EEOC\u2019s authority,\u201d the congresswoman continued:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PWFA was intended to ensure employers provide reasonable accommodations to pregnant employees. The PWFA does not apply to abortions.<\/em>
The term \u2018abortion\u2019 is not once mentioned in the law. Instead of following congressional intent, the Biden administration is using the regulatory process to advance radical policy goals. This isn\u2019t surprising given the administration\u2019s predilection for abusing the Constitution.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe cherry on top, it is overly broad and unreasonable, causing chaos and confusion for workers and employers,\u201d Foxx added. \u201cBottom line, this is a classic example of government bureaucrats royally mucking it up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also on Monday, pro-religious freedom legal group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF)\u00a0noted<\/a>\u00a0that the rule would \u201cimpose pro-abortion regulations on virtually every employer in the country, even those whose religious beliefs dictate that life begins at conception.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis rule is just the latest example of the Biden administration abusing its power to advance abortion,\u201d argued ADF Senior Counsel Julie Marie Blake.
