She said, \u201cWhen I found out I was pregnant at 16 as a junior in high school it was really scary. I was very upset with myself and it was a hard thing to go through, but I just knew immediately I had this connection. I really do love being a mom\u2026 If I could go back I wouldn\u2019t change it at all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cate Gartner: She Wrote A Song About Being 16 And Pregnant - American Idol 2024\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OJzASu9XEYw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The chorus of \u201cThe Place That I Call Home\u201d is below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\"><em>They say I\u2019m too young that I don\u2019t know what I\u2019m supposed to do<\/em><br><em>But I know one thing for sure, that I love you more than anything I had before<\/em><br><em>And I didn\u2019t know I needed you<\/em><br><em>After everything my heart had been through<\/em><br><em>Every moment that I walk with you<\/em><br><em>I\u2019ll learn things I never knew<\/em><br><em>With all of my love, I\u2019ll hold onto you<\/em><br><em>and sure that every dream comes true<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The American Idol judges&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/from-16-and-pregnant-to-american-idol-cate-gartners-real-life-lyrics-earn-a-standing-ovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">were clearly<\/a>&nbsp;captivated by her vulnerable song and praised Gartner for both her talent for singing and for storytelling as well. Gartner received three confident votes to move her on to the next stage of competition in Hollywood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Cooper, Gartner\u2019s boyfriend, and her father accompanied her to the audition. At the end of her audition, she said to her son: \u201cI love you so, so much and this is for you buddy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Gartner was already pursuing a career in music when she found out she was pregnant. Drew Hill, who was helping her write music and teaching her guitar, suggested she write a song for her baby. \u201cThe Place That I Call Home\u201d was finished just three weeks before she gave birth. In a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/CsJWN3Mt66B\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TikTok video<\/a>&nbsp;before the song was released, she explained more of the story behind the song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThis is the most vulnerable I\u2019ve ever been probably ever, but this is the most meaningful song I\u2019ve ever written. And if it can help at least one girl in my situation, I\u2019ll be happy,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">But young moms haven\u2019t always been treated favorably on American Idol.
