An LGBT pressure group that advocates teaching transgender ideology to children in preschool has endorsed an abortion-related state constitutional amendment that could also create a constitutional \u201cright\u201d for minors to have transgender surgeries without their parents\u2019 knowledge or approval. In addition, the transgender activist group is joined by one of the nation\u2019s largest profiteers from injecting minors and young adults with cross-sex hormones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has endorsed Ohio Issue One, the so-called \u201cRight to Make Reproductive Decisions Including Abortion Initiative.\u201d Its supporters say the amendment aims to \u201censhrine\u201d the right to abortion in Ohio\u2019s constitution. But critics point out that the amendment grants the right to make \u201creproductive decisions including but not limited to abortion\u201d to \u201cevery individual,\u201d instead of every\u00a0adult. That could apply to transgender procedures, since\u00a0puberty blockers, cross-sex hormone injections<\/a>, and transgender surgeries can sterilize their recipients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHRC is endorsing Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights (OURR) \u2014 a group of local coalitions\u201d including<\/a> TransOhio and EqualityOhio<\/a> that supports Issue One, said<\/a> the group\u2019s press release. \u201cHuman Rights Campaign members and supporters in Ohio are ready to fight alongside local advocates\u201d to support the initiative, which will ensure \u201ccomprehensive reproductive medical care, including abortion, is available to every Ohioan,\u201d said HRC president Kelley Robinson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HRC\u2019s \u201cWelcoming Schools\u201d program instructs teachers to read the book \u201c<\/strong>They, She, He, Easy as ABC<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> to children in preschool<\/a> or kindergarten. Its pre-K lesson plan<\/a> defines \u201cgender identity\u201d as \u201cHow you feel. Girl, boy, both or neither. Everyone has a gender identity,\u201d conducts school trainings<\/a>, and creates lesson plans for teachers<\/a> beginning in \u201c<\/strong>pre-K<\/a>.\u201d<\/strong> By third grade, it encourages students to use the \u201c<\/strong>Gender Snowperson<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> exercise to \u201cunderstand the differences between gender identity, sexual orientation and sex assigned at birth.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HRC, an LGBT activist group with a\u00a0<\/strong>$46 million<\/a>\u00a0budget, opposes laws protecting minors from transgender procedures and has\u00a0<\/strong>denounced<\/a>\u00a0laws \u201callowing misgendering of transgender students\u201d or regulating \u201cdrag performances.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local family groups say HRC\u2019s endorsement justifies their concerns and should give Ohio voters pause<\/strong>.<\/mark>\u00a0\u201cThe Human Rights Campaign, the nation\u2019s leading activist group advocating for minors\u2019 \u2018right\u2019 to undergo transgender surgeries and receive dangerous puberty blocking drugs and wrong-sex hormones, endorsing Planned Parenthood\u2019s abortion initiative is further proof that this proposed constitutional amendment is far more extreme than you might think,\u201d David Mahan, policy director at the Columbus-based\u00a0Center for Christian Virtue<\/a>, told The Washington Stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis opens the door for children of all ages to make life-changing decisions, absent parental involvement, that permanently disfigure or destroy their reproductive systems or organs,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>wrote<\/a>\u00a0Mehek Cooke, an Ohio-based attorney born in India. She decried \u201cthe ACLU\u2019s efforts to cloak its anti-parent agenda in a web of abortion rights messaging. \u2026 [T]he ACLU knew exactly what it was doing when it helped draft this radical anti-parent amendment.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Issue One\u2019s prime supporter, Planned Parenthood, stands to benefit financially from both the amendment\u2019s abortion and transgender-related interpretations. Since the Dobbs decision, Planned Parenthood has become heavily involved in carrying out transgender procedures<\/a> \u2014 including giving puberty blockers and\/or cross-sex hormones to children as young as 12<\/a>. The Planned Parenthood Federation of America\u2019s 2019-2020 annual report<\/a> stated that \u201c[m]ore than 200 [Planned Parenthood offices] in 31 states provid[e] hormone [injections] for transgender patients.\u201d PPFA\u2019s most recent report<\/a> listed \u201ctransgender services\u201d as part of the 15,902 \u201cother services\u201d it carried out in the 2020-2021 fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ohio state Planned Parenthood affiliate has followed suit.
\u201cPlanned Parenthood of Greater Ohio (PPGOH) is proud to provide gender-affirming care, including hormone therapy,\u201d including testosterone and estrogen\/antiandrogen hormones,\u00a0states<\/a>\u00a0PPGOH\u2019s website. \u201cWe\u2019re committed to helping you access this care,\u201d it says \u2014 so committed that \u201c[a] therapist\u2019s letter is not required to begin hormone therapy.\u201d (PPGOH adds that it is \u201chappy to recommend trans- and nonbinary – friendly therapists in the area.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
